Risk League Tip: Strategic Attacks, Counting Territories

Everyone knows that it’s of great benefit to own lots of territories. Especially if those territories happen to constitute an entire continent. What many players don’t consider is that during their attack phase they need to be strategic in the damage they do.

It’s an obvious tactic to remove a territory from a continent, removing 1 territory can prevent the generation of anywhere from 2 to 7 armies for your opponents next turn.

Something else to keep in mind is that for every three territories you remove, you have effectively removed the ability for another army to be generated for them as well.

Before you end your turn, do a quick count, and determine how many territories your opponent has. Do a quick cost estimate to determine if it’s worth removing just one or two additional territories to prevent the continued growth of their military.
